Here is part 2 of the 70% rule I was sent regarding Time Management.
If you missed part 1 then please read here
Enjoy

Imagine, we have three tasks. They are all at zero out of ten in terms of where we want them to be. We get the first task to 7/10. We are not 100% happy with this, but it is at an acceptable level. Therefore, we let the “perfectionism” inside subside for that particular task, in pursuit of “perfection” of the whole task. Lets repeat line.
“Therefore, we let the ‘perfectionism’ inside subside for that particular task, in pursuit of ‘perfection’ of the whole task.”
We then move on to the next task, and so forth until we get to 7/10 for each of the tasks. So imagine you are that chef. You have just produced your blueberry muffins for the day. They are 7/10 you are now working on the two other tasks. Your boss tells you that we need the 3/10 more for the blueberry muffin task. They are the boss, and it is their call, but it is your responsibility to make the boss aware that the time it takes to make the “muffin” perfect could in fact be detrimental to the business, because the other two tasks that your are undertaking are at zero, and you need to get them to 7. Three tasks for 7/10 = 21/30, whereas one task of 10/10 and two tasks of 0/10 = 10/30.
Always consider the concept of the “70% rule” on any particular task in order to improve the perfecting of the overall image/output.
Footnote – there are certain tasks that have to be 10/10. No doubt. You must use good judgment to work out when a particular task is 10/10, and carefully consider the consequences.
So for example, an examinations officer who produces a timetable for students, needs to be 10/10 for the timetable in terms of times/length of exam/date/whereabouts of examination. A mistake could lead to that student missing out on a crucial examination and possibly loss of a degree place, and potentially damage future earnings. However, the officer only needs to be 7/10 for the layout of the timetable.
So there you have it. What are your thoughts? Do you agree? I know it has helped me in most cases.
